A Coogee apartment at 4 Major St has sold for $1.93 million at auction, with the proceeds directed to charity under the late owner’s will.
The two-bedroom unit achieved a result reported as $330,000 above reserve. The property formed part of the estate of Charles Robinson.
Estate Directed To Charitable Organisations
Under the terms of the will, the proceeds were left to the Edmund Rice Foundation, The Little Sisters of the Poor and The Little Kings Movement For The Handicapped.
Mr Robinson’s great-nephew and executor, Andrew Moore, stated that the estate included both the Coogee apartment and an approximately $1.5 million share portfolio. He also indicated that family members supported the decision to leave the estate to charitable causes.
Mr Robinson was educated by the Congregation of Christian Brothers, now known as the Edmund Rice Foundation, and spent much of his working life as company secretary for the Australian tea brand Bushells until retirement.

Coogee Location And Property Details
The apartment is positioned directly opposite Dunningham Park and within close reach of Gordons Bay and Coogee Beach.
Listing information from Ray White Eastern Beaches describes the home as north-east facing, with two bedrooms, one bathroom and an oversized lock-up garage with additional storage space. The building area is listed at 115 square metres.
The property was reported to remain in original 1960s condition. It was purchased by an investor who intends to renovate and lease the unit.
