Renowned surfer and mental wellbeing advocate Blakey Johnston will headline an exclusive fundraising event at Yana Coogee.
The said event on the 17th May 2024 aims to raise awareness and funds for mental health initiatives while fostering open conversations about personal challenges and strategies for growth.
Johnston, best known for his Guinness World Record achievement for the longest uninterrupted surf session, will share his powerful journey of resilience and offer practical tools for mental wellbeing.
The event also features a specially designed menu by Chefs Sam Lane and Joel Bennetts, a live performance by Dean Ray, and a raffle with exceptional prizes focused on supporting mental health. Raffle proceeds and on-site donations will benefit the Chumpy Pullin Foundation.
Yana, a restaurant celebrating the symbolism of open-flame cooking and community, provides the perfect setting for this meaningful gathering.
“Fire is about sharing, about bringing people together,” said Chef Sam Lane, “and I want [Yana] to be a place where people feel like they can share stories.”
Lane, who personally grapples with anxiety, is passionate about fostering connection within the community. The idea for this event was born during a candid conversation about mental health between Lane and Sky News reporter Laura Jayes, a discussion that ultimately led to the collaboration with Johnston.
The 120-seat restaurant will host guests from 6:00 p.m. with a $75 ticket including welcome drinks and an exclusive tasting menu. At 8:00 p.m., Dean Ray will give a moving musical performance before Johnston’s keynote address.
The evening culminates with a raffle designed in collaboration with Johnston and Recoverie, a wellness studio promoting science-based recovery techniques. Attendees can purchase raffle tickets (a single ticket for $20, or three for $50) for a chance to win:
