The police update comes as attention remains on behaviour at Coogee Beach following the circulation of footage showing groups gathered around fights on the sand.

Video of organised fights circulates online

Video posted on September 21 showed large groups of people gathered at Coogee Beach while individuals appeared to fight or grapple in the centre of the crowd. Some footage showed people wearing boxing gloves, while other scenes showed spectators surrounding fighters on the sand.

The footage drew attention to organised fights taking place at the popular beach. Coogee state Labor MP Marjorie O’Neill said her office was working with police after the footage emerged and described the behaviour as concerning.

Proactive policing has also continued overnight, with plain-clothes officers carrying out patrols and crime disruption activities across the area. The police command said officers continue working around the clock, whether responding to calls for assistance or using available opportunities to patrol and disrupt offending.

The activity forms part of a broader policing effort spanning several Eastern Beaches suburbs. Police are also asking residents and others with relevant information to come forward. Information can be provided to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, with community reports helping police identify problem locations and target patrols.
