Proposed Greenway Could Create New Link Between Kingsford to Coogee

A proposed greenway connecting Kingsford to Coogee has been included in a new vision for Sydney that aims to make walking and cycling easier through greener neighbourhood connections.

The Committee for Sydney has included the Kingsford to Coogee connection in its new Breathable Density report, which argues that Sydney’s future growth should be supported by more connected parks, waterways, tree canopy and active transport.

Coogee included in long-term greenway vision

The Breathable Density report outlines a long-term proposal for a network of greenways across Greater Sydney. Rather than creating isolated parks or shared paths, the plan focuses on linking existing green spaces so people can walk and cycle between neighbourhoods using more connected routes.

One of those proposed routes would connect Kingsford to Coogee. While the greenway remains a concept, it places Coogee among the suburbs identified in the report’s vision for a more connected city.

The Committee for Sydney says Sydney already has many of the natural features needed to build such a network, including creek lines, river corridors, parklands and other public land. Bringing those corridors together would create more opportunities for people to move through the city while staying connected to nature.

The report also points to research showing that better access to quality green and blue spaces can support physical and mental health, encourage people to spend more time outdoors and help cool neighbourhoods through increased tree canopy.

For Coogee residents, a future greenway to Kingsford could strengthen links between the beachside suburb and nearby education, transport and community facilities. However, the report does not include detailed route maps or a construction timeline for the proposal.

Part of a broader push for active transport

The proposed greenway comes as walking and cycling projects continue across Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Nearby, Randwick City Council has been progressing the final stage of the Kingsford to Centennial Park cycleway. If construction receives future NSW Government funding, the completed project would provide a continuous 2.8-kilometre separated cycleway linking Kingsford with Centennial Park and connecting with the City of Sydney’s cycling network.

The council project is separate from the Committee for Sydney’s proposal. Even so, both initiatives reflect growing interest in improving active transport connections across the eastern suburbs.
